VATA

Ether and Air combine to form the principle of Vata, lending their qualities of dryness, lightness and coldness to this dosha. The term Vata means "Wind". It is responsible for all movement in the body. Vata governs the central nervous system (with its sensory and motor reflexes), respiration of air, expulsion of waste products, circulation of blood through the body, the sensation of touch and the sense of hearing.

A healthy Vata will show itself as good circulation, healthy excretion of waste products, enthusiasm, imagination, creativity and adaptability.

An excess of Vata may manifest in conditions such as dry skin, hair and nails, constipation, nerve-related pain, weight loss, loss of strength, tinnitus, restlessness, tiredness and insomnia, feelings of fear and anxiety.
